As C&EN continues to evolve to meet how readers consume news today, institutional subscribers will notice a change in where they access C&EN content. Beginning in the summer of 2026, current C&EN journalism will move off the ACS Publications website and live exclusively on the C&EN website. What’s Changing and What Isn’t

Institutional subscribers have traditionally accessed C&EN content through C&EN Global Enterprise (C&EN GE) on the ACS Publications website. C&EN GE will be sunset in mid‑2026, but institutional access to C&EN is not going away. Access agreements that currently include C&EN GE will automatically include full access to the C&EN Online website.

C&EN has grown beyond a weekly magazine. The C&EN website publishes stories daily, with breaking news, deeper analysis, and more ways to engage with the science you care about. You’ll find:

  • More frequent news and analysis updates
  • Videos, podcasts, and interactive graphics
  • Expanded coverage across industry, academia, policy, and careers

This move allows C&EN to deliver news in real time and in formats that reflect how scientific news is consumed today.

A note about alerts and preferences

Email alerts previously set up for C&EN through the ACS Publications Preference Center will be discontinued. C&EN offers more specific, personalized preferences for your news stream so you can follow topics, beats, and formats that matter most to you.

Timeline at a glance

  • April 2026: Final new content delivery (May 2026 issue) to C&EN GE on ACS Publications site
  • May 11, 2026: Institutional subscribers gain access to C&EN at cen.acs.org
  • Summer of 2026:
    • C&EN Archives (1923–2015): Remains on pubs.acs.org
    • C&EN (2016–present): Available only on cen.acs.org

Access remains seamless

Institutional authentication methods—including IP authentication, federated or SSO login, and ACS ID—will continue to work as they do today. Users may need to reauthenticate when moving between ACS Publications and the C&EN website, but access rights will remain intact and the experience should be the same.

Looking ahead

This move supports C&EN’s mission to provide timely, authoritative chemical news in formats that meet readers where they are.
