The ACS Publications portfolio of journals saw a rise in Journal Impact Factors™, with five journals recognized for the first time in the Journal Citation Reports (Clarivate, 2025).

The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is pleased to announce that its influential portfolio of journals was recognized in the Journal Citation Reports (Clarivate, 2025) with a median 2024 Journal Impact Factor™ of 5.0, an increase of 3.3% from the previous year, with over 4.7 million citations counted across the journals in 2024.
The Journal Impact Factor™ is a metric which provides a measure of how often an average article in each journal was cited within a specific time window, indicating the influence and impact of a journal. The strong median score demonstrates that, as a cohort, ACS Publications journals remain the leading home for the most relevant scientific research.
“We’re proud to see our median Journal Impact Factor™ rising as we maintain the excellence and integrity of our growing portfolio of journals,” said ACS Publications Senior Vice President and Chief Publishing Officer Sarah Tegen, Ph.D. “We are proud to serve the global scientific community, whose partnership makes it possible for our journals to remain the most trusted, most cited, and most read in chemistry.”
In addition to the rising influence of the portfolio overall, the following five journals received their inaugural Journal Impact Factors™ this year:
- ACS Applied Engineering Materials (3.5)
- ACS Applied Optical Materials (3.8)
- Chemical & Biomedical Imaging (5.7)
- Environment & Health (6.3)
- Precision Chemistry (6.2)
JACS, the Journal of the American Chemical Society (15.6), saw its 2024 Journal Impact Factor™ rise by 7.6% as it maintained its position as the most cited journal in chemistry, with over 600,000 citations in 2024. The journal Chemical Reviews (55.8) achieved the highest 2024 Journal Impact Factor™ in chemistry.
The ACS Au family of open access journals achieved a median 2024 Journal Impact Factor™ of 6.4, an increase of 16% over last year when many of the journals received their inaugural scores. In particular, ACS Measurement Science Au (9.0) rose by 95.7% and ACS Polymers Au (6.9) rose by 43.8% as the ACS Publications open access portfolio matures into influential and impactful journals in their respective fields.
Researchers can continue to trust ACS Publications’ record of excellence as its portfolio of journals expands with new journals like ACS Nano Medicine and ACS Nutrition Science that create space for research, discoveries, and innovations that improve all lives through the transforming power of chemistry.
